Le vieux qui lisait des romans d'amour, Luis Sepúlveda

J’adore passer mon temps dans les librairies ! Ça me plaît tellement de flâner dans les différentes sections et chercher LA perle, LE livre qui va me permettre de m'évader. J'ai d'ailleurs une liste de livres que je tiens absolument à m'approprier !

L'autre jour, je suis tombée sur celui-ci, Le vieux qui lisait des romans d'amour, de Luis Sepúlveda. J'ai lu la première page et j'ai tout de suite su qu'il allait me plaire ! Je vous résume brièvement :

Suite à la découverte du cadavre d'un homme sur une pirogue, les habitants D'El Idilio et plus particulièrement le maire, accusent les Shuars (les indiens) d'être responsables de cette mort pour le moins étrange. Antonio José Bolivar, est le seul à comprendre qu'il s'agit d'un félin.

Tout au long du roman on en apprendra plus sur la vie d'Antonio José Bolivar, sur sa passion pour les romans d'amour mais aussi sur la vie des amérindiens.

Ce court roman permet de faire réfléchir quant à notre comportement vis à vis de la nature. Je me suis beaucoup attachée au héros du roman, Antonio José Bolivar, qui, malgré son âge, fait preuve d'une grande capacité à s'adapter dans la forêt, suite aux enseignements des Shuars. C’est un roman touchant et plutôt facile à lire ! On remarquera aussi un petit commentaire de l'auteur à la fin du livre, qui nous permettra d'en savoir plus sur ses intentions en écrivant cette histoire.

I love to spend my time in the bookshops! I enjoy strolling in the different sections and looking for THE book that will allow me to escape the real life for a few hours. I actually have a list of the books that I really want to read!

The other day, I came across this one, The Old Man Who Read Love Stories by Luis Sepulveda. I read the first page and I directly knew that I would like it. Let me briefly summarize it for you: following the discovering of a man’s body on a pirogue, the inhabitant of El Idilio and more particularly the mayor, blame the Shuars (Indians) to be responsible of this mysterious death. Antonio José Bolivar is the only one to understand that it is a jungle cat.

Throughout the story, we’ll learn more about Antonio José Bolivar’s life, about his passion for love stories but also about Amerindian’s life.

This short novel allows us to think about our behaviour against the nature. I became attached to the novel’s principal character, Antonio José Bolivar, whom, despite his age shows a great capacity to adapt himself in the wildlife thank’s to the Shuar’s lessons and help. It’s a touching novel which is rather easy to read! One can note the little commentary of the author at the end of the book which will allows us to know more about his intentions while writing this story.
